Introduction to the School of Educational Sciences of Chongqing Normal University
The School of Educational Sciences of Chongqing Normal University has a long history and a strong academic foundation. Its origins can be traced back to The Second Women’s Normal School, established in Sichuan in 1914, giving it a history of 109 years. The newly reorganized School of Educational Sciences was established in 2010, through the merger of the former School of Education, School of Special Education and School of Preschool Education, as well as some teachers and students from the School of Film and Television Media and School of Primary Education. Currently, it is the largest secondary School within the university. Additionally, the Chongqing Preschool Normal College and Chongqing Special Education College, both established by the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, are also affiliated with this school.
Currently, the school has 130 faculty and staff members, with 62% holding senior professional titles and 67% have obtained doctoral degrees. Among the faculty, there are 2 distinguished teachers under the National “Ten Thousand Talents Plan”, 2 national education supervisors and members of the Higher Education Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, 7 experts receiving special allowance from the State Council, 2 “National Excellent Teachers”, 1 “National Model Teacher”, 1 “National Advanced Individual in Special Education”, 1 recipient of the titles “National Most Beautiful Teacher” and “National Self-improvement Model”. Additionally, the school has one Chongqing “Huang Danian-style Teaching Team,” one young scholar under the Chongqing Bayu Scholar Program, 6 “Chongqing Talents” in the Chongqing Talent Plan, 3 famous teachers in Chongqing, 19 provincial-level academic and technical leaders, 2 role models in teaching and education in Chongqing, 1 outstanding talent support program for universities in Chongqing, and 7 young and middle-aged backbone teachers in universities in Chongqing. The school offers six undergraduate programs: Education, Preschool Education, Special Education, Educational Rehabilitation, Applied Psychology, and Educational Technology, with a current enrollment of 1,806 undergraduate students and 1,223 graduate students.
The school currently holds 2 first-level master’s degree authorizations disciplines in Education and Psychology, and 2 professional master’s degree authorization points in Education and Applied Psychology. It has 2 national first-class majors, 4 national high-quality courses, 1 national teachers’ innovation team training base, 3 Chongqing key disciplines, 2 provincial-level key humanities and social science research bases, 1 provincial-level key laboratory, 3 provincial-level innovation and teaching teams, 1 Chongqing characteristic discipline professional group, 2 Chongqing first-class undergraduate programs, 3 Chongqing characteristic majors, 1 national ideological and political demonstration course, 5 Chongqing high-quality courses, 13 Chongqing first-class and ideological-political demonstration courses, and 1 virtual laboratory in Chongqing. The school also possesses 6 national level planning textbooks, 9 provincial-level planning textbooks, along with 2 provincial-level teacher training bases.
In recent years, the school has achieved a series of milestones in education and research. It was the first in China to establish and develop an experimental school serving special children founded by university researchers, and also was the first to establish the national "Key Laboratory for Psychological Diagnosis and Educational Technology of Special Children in Municipal Universities". The Special Education Resource Center was approved as a municipal project, and a new interdisciplinary research center for brain cognition and rehabilitation of special children was established. The Chongqing Women and Children’s Development Center was approved as the second batch of new key think tanks in Chongqing. Also, In the field of education, the school has established and developed the Chongqing Curriculum and Teaching Research Base; The preschool education program has trained over 90% of the principals of demonstration kindergartens in Chongqing, and has been approved as one of the first national level teacher innovation team training bases (early childhood care and preschool education) by the Ministry of Education; The school has been approved and constructed 1 national level excellent teacher training plan project, 2 demonstration projects for teacher team construction by the Ministry of Education, 1 key project for teacher team construction in Chongqing, 2 innovative experimental zones for talent training models at the provincial and ministerial levels, 1 comprehensive reform pilot major for professional construction by the Chongqing Education Commission, 1 application and transformation pilot major for professional talent training in Chongqing, and 2 reform pilot projects for undergraduate excellent talent training models at the school level. In recent years, faculty members have received 7 national teaching achievement awards and 10 Chongqing municipal teaching achievement awards, and received 55 municipal teaching reform research projects, including 8 major projects and 20 key projects. The school also led 31 national level scientific research projects and 103 provincial and ministerial level scientific research projects; Received 58 provincial-level scientific research achievement awards; published 39 academic monographs and over 266 high-quality academic papers.
